You hold USDT ERC-20 but no ETH for gas — three exits before you buy XMR

Your wallet shows USDT on Ethereum. You want XMR. The send screen refuses to move — not enough ETH for gas. Telegram SERPs push TRC-20 Instant desks as the escape hatch. That panic move is how people lose a network. This post is for the stuck ERC-20 balance: why gas is required, what not to do, and three exits that keep the rail honest.

Why the button dies

USDT ERC-20 transfers are Ethereum contract calls. Fees are paid in ETH, not in USDT. A wallet can show a large USDT balance and still be immobile if ETH ≈ 0. Swap bots that accept “USDT” without naming the network do not remove that rule — they pick a rail for you, often TRC-20.

Domestic Monero peer offers that list USDT mean ERC-20 on Ethereum mainnet — not TRC-20, BEP-20, or SPL. Wrong-network sends do not match offers: Hold TRC-20 USDT, want XMR.

Three-path diagram for holders of USDT ERC-20 with no ETH: get gas first, pay with another DM asset, or buy ETH then use an ETH peer offer.
Three exits — gas first, other asset, or ETH→XMR — not a silent TRC-20 hop.

What not to do in the panic window

MoveWhy it fails
Send USDT TRC-20 to an address that expected ERC-20Wrong chain; recovery is rare
Deposit to a Telegram desk that only shows “USDT” with no networkYou may be forced onto a rail you do not hold
Bridge USDT to another chain “just to swap” without a plan for fees + custodyExtra hops, extra failure modes
Accept a cold “support” DM offering to “unstick” the walletClassic seed / trade-share harvest

Three exits

1 — Get a small ETH gas buffer, then pay USDT ERC-20

Acquire a small amount of ETH on Ethereum mainnet (enough for one ERC-20 transfer with headroom). Then browse Domestic Monero BUY offers paid in USDT, send on ERC-20, submit the TX hash, wait 6 confirmations, keep the trade share. How-to shape: How to convert USDT to XMR P2P.

2 — Pay with another asset you can already move

If you hold BTC, LTC, SOL, or ETH you can spend, match a peer offer on that rail instead of forcing USDT. Same Mini App; different payment chip. Pair guides: BTC→XMR · ETH→XMR · SOL→XMR.

3 — Turn the problem into an ETH→XMR trade

If getting ETH is easier than getting “just enough gas,” buy or receive ETH, then take an ETH peer offer for XMR. You still pay gas on Ethereum — but the payment asset and the fee asset match. See ETH to XMR P2P on Telegram.

How this differs from “best rate” shopping

Rate tiles assume you can deposit on the network they chose. A zero-ETH ERC-20 wallet fails before the quote matters. Fix mobility first; then compare all-in cost: Best USDT→XMR quote vs all-in cost.

FAQ

Can Domestic Monero accept my TRC-20 USDT so I skip ETH gas?
No. Public USDT rail is ERC-20 on Ethereum mainnet only.

Is “not enough ETH for gas” a Domestic Monero error?
No. It is an Ethereum wallet constraint. Peer offers cannot broadcast your ERC-20 transfer for free.

Where is support?
Only /support on @domestic_monero_bot with Trade #ref.
