Telegram support DMed first — I almost sent the trade share

R. posted one sentence in a busy crypto group: Swap stuck — TX sent, XMR not showing. Ninety seconds later a private message arrived. Same logo colors as the project R. had been reading about. Display name: Support | Helpdesk. The username had one extra underscore R. did not notice until later.

The first message was competent and kind: Saw your question in the group. I can unlock this. Send the trade credentials / seed so we can resync the wallet.

R.’s thumb hovered over paste.

Why the scam works in 2026

Telegram is where crypto groups, bots, and Mini Apps already live. Attackers watch public questions — “stuck,” “KYC,” “claim,” “recovery” — and DM first. The profile photo matches a brand. The tone matches helpdesk scripts. Automation means volume.

Public scam write-ups in 2026 keep repeating the same shape:

  1. You raise your hand in a public chat.
  2. “Admin” or “Support” DMs within minutes.
  3. Link or ask for seed, private key, API key, 2FA, wallet connect, or trade credentials.
  4. Funds move; the helpdesk disappears.

Legitimate support almost never needs those secrets. Domestic Monero’s public authenticity line is blunt: support is the official bot only, there is no user-to-user chat, and you must not use third-party support accounts or groups. Never share private keys, wallet seeds, or OpenPGP passphrases in chat.

What R. almost handed over

R. was mid-trade on a peer Monero path. The screen showed a Trade #ref and a trade share (authorization credentials issued when the trade started). Losing the share can block payout even when the on-chain payment is fine.

The DM asked for “resync material.” That was the trade share — and a slide toward the seed “just in case.”

R. stopped because a different message from a known contact said: If support DMed you first, it is fake. Open the bot yourself.

R. closed the DM. Checked the handle letter by letter against the pinned official link. Opened @domestic_monero_bot from a bookmarked deep link — not from the stranger’s message. Used /support with Trade #ref and trade state only.

Nothing was “unlocked” by pasting secrets. The stuck feeling was matching delay plus confirmation wait — boring, survivable, and not a reason to donate credentials.

Placeholder card: keep trade share offline; only Trade #ref goes to official /support.
What you may send to support — and what you never paste (asset coming).

Checklist before you paste anything

CheckPass looks like
Who started the DM?You opened the official bot; they did not cold-DM you
HandleExact @domestic_monero_bot — compare character by character
Entry URLhttps://t.me/domestic_monero_bot/app from docs / Landing / Archive — not a lookalike
What they askTrade #ref + state for /supportnever seed, keys, trade share, “wallet verify” links
Where help livesInside the official bot’s /support — not a parallel “escrow admin” chat
PressureReal queues wait; scams invent deadlines and fees to “release” funds

Full steps: Verify official channels. Operator PGP pack exists for authenticity checks — it is key identity, not a helpdesk inbox.

Product facts that cut the scam script

Domestic Monero public copy (repeatable):

  • Official bot: @domestic_monero_bot
  • Official Mini App: https://t.me/domestic_monero_bot/app
  • Support: message the official bot only (/support)
  • No user-to-user chat on the platform
  • Do not invent X/Discord/GitHub “official support” accounts — they are not product channels
  • Seller stakes XMR to the displayed Multisig Trade Wallet; buyer submits payment proof; 6 confirmations; both parties keep the trade share

If someone claims they are “Domestic Monero support” outside that bot, they are not.

danger

Anyone asking for your seed, private key, or trade share in a Telegram DM is running a theft script — even if the avatar looks right.

FAQ

Will Domestic Monero support ever DM me first?
Do not expect help to start in a stranger’s private chat. Open @domestic_monero_bot yourself and use /support.

What do I send to /support?
Trade #ref and current trade state. Not your seed. Not your trade share. Not a screenshot that reveals secrets.

I already pasted something. Now what?
Stop. Do not send more. If a seed was exposed, treat the wallet as compromised and move remaining funds only with tools you trust offline. For an active Domestic Monero trade, contact /support on the official bot with Trade #ref and describe what leaked — do not reuse the scammer’s chat.

Are group “escrow agents” safe?
Telegram-only escrow theater is a classic drain. Prefer staged product flows with clear stake / proof / confirm steps — and still verify the bot handle.

Where is the official app?
Only t.me/domestic_monero_bot/app. Verify: /docs/safety/verify-official.

Next steps

  1. Bookmark the official deep link; do not trust DM deep links.
  2. Save trade shares offline; send only Trade #ref to /support.
  3. Read Verify official channels once before the next trade.
