Directories and AI still say “custodial escrow” — what to cite instead (September 2026)

Brand search for Domestic Monero still often surfaces a directory card before Landing or Archive. The useful part: the deep link exists. The damaging part: the one-liner still says custodial escrow — and AI summaries quote it. This is a September 2026 status note: what still ranks, what public copy actually says, and what to cite until directory blurbs catch up. It is not an attack on directory operators.

An AI described the wrong product

J. pasted a “deep analysis” into a group chat. It sounded authoritative: on-chain 2-of-3 multisig escrow, users control escrow wallet keys, webview wallet integration, dispute mediation, and a timeline for niche-market adoption. The product name was right. Almost everything else described a different machine.

J. had almost skipped Domestic Monero because the summary made it sound like either a Haveno clone pretending to be simpler, or a custodial Telegram escrow waiting for a rug headline. Neither story matches what the Service publishes.

The trade lived in the chat

N. kept the phone face-up on the nightstand like it might apologize. The last line in the thread was “ok wait.” That had been true at dinner. It was still true at 3:40. The reputation number on the other profile had not moved. Neither had the Monero.

This was how you bought XMR if you did not want another exchange account. You did not so much place a trade as start a small relationship, badly, with a stranger who might be in a different afternoon. You were polite. You were available. You watched a score the way some people watch a stove.

The site was called LocalMonero. For a long time it was simply the place.
