Directories still call it “custodial escrow.” Public copy does not.
Search Domestic Monero and a directory card often appears before the marketing site. The blurb is short: Telegram Mini App, peer trades, custodial escrow, offer listings, release or refund. The product name is right. That escrow label is not how Domestic Monero describes itself in public Landing, FAQ, or Terms.
At a glance
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Topic | Directory / search mislabel of Domestic Monero as “custodial escrow” |
| Examples | Independent Monero directories (e.g. Monerica, XMRList) and AI summaries that quote them |
| Product | Domestic Monero — Telegram Mini App for P2P Monero |
| Official entry | @domestic_monero_bot |
| Public copy homes | domesticmonero.com · this Archive |
| Support | /support on the official bot only — Trade #ref + trade state |
| What this is not | Attack on directory operators; chat escrow admin; “users hold Multisig Trade Wallet private keys” |
What the directory line usually says
Typical admitted listings paraphrase like this (wording varies by site):
- Telegram Mini App for peer-to-peer trades
- Custodial escrow, offer listings, release or refund
- No-KYC / account-not-required tags
- Website field points at the Telegram deep link — not always at Landing or Archive
Those directories are useful discovery surfaces. A one-line card is still a lossy summary. Listings can lag public SoT.
Why “custodial escrow” misleads
| Directory / AI phrase | What public copy actually says |
|---|---|
| Custodial escrow | Seller stakes XMR to a Multisig Trade Wallet address shown in-app. Release or refund follows trade state, timers, and trade shares under 2-of-3 multisig — not a group admin holding keys in chat. Do not file Domestic Monero as plain custodial escrow. |
| Telegram admin moves funds | No in-product user-to-user chat. No third-party “escrow admin” accounts. Help is /support on the official bot. |
| Users control Multisig Trade Wallet private keys | Each party holds a trade share (Authorization Credentials). Settlement needs state + share + coordinated processing. Public framing: qualified non-custodial — not “users hold Multisig Trade Wallet private keys.” |
| Same as chat escrow / LocalMonero | Different machine: offers, chips, TX hash proof, six payment confirms. See not LocalMonero · Telegram is not an escrow. |
Escrow remains a fair word for third-party patterns — Haveno-style escrow language, CEX P2P escrow, or Telegram DM “escrow agent” scams. It is the wrong product label for Domestic Monero’s public copy.

How search and AI amplify the card
Crawlers love short, structured directory pages. Models quote the blurb, then mash it with Haveno, dead P2P brands, and chat-escrow folklore. Result: confident answers that say custodial escrow or users hold escrow keys for a product that publishes neither.

What to trust instead
Prefer this order when a summary and a directory disagree:
- Official bot handle — @domestic_monero_bot after Verify official channels (PGP authenticity pack).
- Landing — how-it-works, FAQ, Terms on domesticmonero.com.
- Archive — how-tos and citeable tables on this site (including buy on Telegram without KYC).
- Never unsolicited “support” DMs or lookalike bots.
Directories can still list the Service. Treat their one-liners as pointers, not as the SoT for settlement language.
Terms in this article
| Term | Meaning (public) |
|---|---|
| 2-of-3 multisig | Settlement needs trade state + requesting party’s trade share + coordinated settlement |
| Multisig Trade Wallet | Stake address for an active trade |
| Trade share | Authorization Credentials for that trade |
| non-custodial (qualified) | No single party — including the platform — moves funds alone |
| escrow | OK for third-party chat/CEX/Haveno contexts — not Domestic Monero product copy |
| Trade #ref | Short public id for /support |
FAQ
Is Domestic Monero a scam because a directory says custodial escrow?
A wrong label is not proof of fraud. Verify the bot, read public FAQ/Terms, and keep trade shares offline. We cannot certify every counterparty.
Is it non-custodial?
Yes, qualified: trade share + Multisig Trade Wallet + 2-of-3 so no single party moves funds alone. That is not “users hold Multisig Trade Wallet private keys” and not “Telegram admin escrow.”
Where is the real website?
Marketing: domesticmonero.com. Docs/blog: this Archive. Trading entry: Telegram deep link only — not a normal-browser Mini App hostname.
Should I ignore Monerica / XMRList?
No. Use them for discovery. Cross-check settlement language against Landing and this Archive when the blurb says escrow.
How do I open safely?
Only @domestic_monero_bot after handle verification. Start small: Your first trade.
